Ingredients

Ingredients

100 grams of lean grass-fed or organic beef mince
1/4 teaspoon of onion powder
1/4 teaspoon of sea salt
Pinch of garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil
2 slices of tomato (or 2 grape tomatoes sliced)
1/4 carrot, grated
1/4 avocado, sliced
Salad greens

Almond Meal Bread Roll:

1/4 cup of almond meal
1 tablespoon of flaxseed meal
1 small egg, lightly beaten
1 tablespoon of unsweetened almond milk
1/4 teaspoon of baking powder
Pinch of sea salt

Method

  1. For the roll - heat your oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas 4.
  2. Mix all roll ingredients together in a small bowl.  If you only have larger eggs, leave out a teaspoon of the beaten egg.  Too much will make the bread eggy instead of bread like.
  3. Let the mixture sit and thicken for a while as the oven heats up.  Line a tray with baking paper.  Your mixture will sit firmly free-form on the baking tray.  Ours sits on the tray approx. 10cm in diameter.  It rises a little but will keep its shape while cooking. Bake for 20mins and set aside to cool a little.
  4. In the meantime, make the burger pattie by mixing the mince, onion powder, garlic powder and sea salt into a bowl.  The salt will hold the mince firmly together so there’s no need to add anything extra.  Form mix into a burger and flatten it out as much as possible as it will shrink together during cooking.  Heat the oil in a small pan and cook the burger for a 2-3 minutes on each side until it’s cooked through.
  5. Prepare any salad ingredients you want to eat on your burger.
  6. Carefully slice the roll in half and fill it with your beef and salad.
  7. You don’t really need a sauce with this burger especially if you use avocado.  However, as mentioned above, check out our sauces area for a healthy homemade one.
