Homemade Paleo BBQ Sauce

If you ask us, this sauce is better than any bought kind and it has none of the horrible additives either.

You will need a stick blender or a very small food processor but trust me, it's worth it.

Hint: This makes around 2 1/2 tablespoons of sauce but the recipe is easily doubled.

Ingredients

1/2 medjool date chopped into small pieces
2 1/2 teaspoons of balsamic vinegar
2 teaspoons of water
2 teaspoons of pure tomato paste
1/2 teaspoon of Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon of coconut aminos or wheat free tamari
1/2 teaspoon of coconut sugar
1 good pinch garlic powder
1 good pinch onion powder
1 pinch of sea salt
1 pinch of fresh cracked black pepper
1 good pinch of smoked paprika

Method

  1. Place chopped dates in a small bowl and pour boiling water over them.
  2. Meanwhile add all of the remaining ingredients to a small saucepan over a very low heat.
  3. Drain the dates and add to pan, simmer gently for 5 minutes to allow the flavours to blend and dates to soften, you don't want to reduce it too much.
  4. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly before adding to a narrow jug and using a stick blender to puree into a sauce. If it's too thick you can add a little water.
Note: This will keep in the fridge for 1 to 2 weeks.
