Turkey Burger

Who says you need a bun to have a good burger?
This Turkey burger has so much flavour on its own but when it's topped with those sweet and sticky balsamic onions it takes it to the next level!

Hint: Use whatever salad you like and if you need it to be dairy free just swap the goat's cheese in the sauce for mayonnaise.

Tip: We used Pure Harvest Coconut Quench for the milk in the sauce but use whatever you have.

Note: Don't be put off by how many steps there are, most of the prep is done while the onions and burgers are cooking.

Ingredients

Ingredients

125 grams of lean turkey mince
2 teaspoons of blanched almond meal
1 clove of garlic, crushed
1/4 teaspoon each of dried basil, parsley & oregano
1 good pinch Himalayan or sea salt
1 pinch of cracked black pepper
1 teaspoon of cold pressed coconut oil

Goat's Cheese Sauce

2 teaspoons of soft goat's cheese
1 teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon of plant based milk (we used Coconut Quench)
1/4 teaspoon of dried garlic powder
1 pinch of Himalayan or sea salt

Salad

3 cos lettuce leaves
1 slice of capsicum (10g)
1 baby cucumber or equivalent (35g), sliced
3 slices of tomato (20g)
1/4 avocado, sliced (40g)

Balsamic Onions

1/2 medium brown or white onion
2 teaspoons of cold pressed coconut oil
1 tablespoon of balsamic vinegar
Himalayan or sea salt & cracked black pepper to taste

Method

  1. Prepare the balsamic onions. Heat the coconut oil in a small pan to medium and add the onions, cook stirring occasionally until they become soft.
  2. Meanwhile prepare the turkey burger by combining the mince with the almond meal, garlic, herbs and seasoning.
  3. Heat another small pan with the remaining 1 teaspoon of coconut oil to medium high and add the turkey burger. Once you have a nice caramelisation on the burger turn the heat to medium low and continue to cook, turning to ensure even cooking.
  4. Once the onions are cooked turn the heat to low and add the balsamic vinegar, stir until you have a nice caramelisation on them, remove from heat and set aside.
  5. While the burger is cooking whisk the sauce ingredients in a small bowl and set aside.
  6. Place the salad ingredients on a plate, drizzle with the sauce then place the cooked burger on top finishing with the balsamic onions. Enjoy!
